Using the Help Scout Power-Up

Help Scout is an email help desk for teams. This Power-Up allows you to attach conversations from Help Scout to cards in Trello.

Enabling the Power-Up

To enable the Power-Up, open the board menu on the right side of the page, select the Power-Ups menu option, and then click the "Add" button next to the Help Scout Power-Up.

Authenticating with Help Scout

Once the Power-Up has been enabled, you will need to link your individual Help Scout account to Trello by clicking the gear icon, selecting "Edit Power-Up settings" and then clicking on "Add Mailbox," and then "Link your Help Scout account."

After clicking "Link your Help Scout cccount," you will see a pop-up to authorize Trello to access Help Scout via its API. Once you select "Authorize", you will be able to add a mailbox to associate with the board.

Each member who has access to Help Scout will need to link their account to Trello individually.

Using the Power-Up

Perhaps the easiest way to attach a Help Scout conversation to a Trello card is to simply copy the Help Scout conversation URL, open the card in Trello, and Cmd/Ctrl+V to paste the URL as an attachment on the card. This should work in most browsers. You can also use the "Attach a link" box via the Attachment button.

The Help Scout Power-Up also provides a button on the back of the card, which you can use to look up conversations in Help Scout if you do not have the URL handy:

The preview on the back of the card shows the following information from the Help Scout conversation:

  • Conversation subject
  • Assigned to
  • Last updated date
  • Last reply preview
  • Tags

A Help Scout badge on the front of the card tells you how many conversations are attached to the card:

Removing conversations

To remove a conversation, click the "remove" link at the top of the Help Scout section. You'll be given an option of which conversation to remove from the card.

Disabling the Power-Up

To disable the authorization with your Help Scout account, open the Power-Ups menu on the right side of the board. Then, click the gear icon and select "Remove personal settings". From there, select the option to clear data.

You can disable the Power-Up for the board by opening the Power-Ups menu, clicking on the gear next to Help Scout, and selecting the Disable button. Disabling the Power-Up will not cause any data loss. It will change the formatting of the links in the card to be the same as any other attached links.
